In 2010, I co-founded Mining Family Matters with great friend and mining mum Alicia Ranford, with the aim of helping families to survive and thrive despite the pressures of working away.
Still publishing our award-winning Survival Guides
More than a decade after creating our much-loved little business, we're both busy with new careers and so have made the decision to close down the Mining Family Matters website. However, due to continuing demand we still publish our award-winning Survival Guides (180,000 copes sold and counting!)
The Survival Guide for Mining Families (second edition) aims to ease the pressures of fly-in, fly-out mining. It's a 32-page, A5 booklet that's available to both companies and individual couples. After receiving lots of interest from companies involved in construction, security, pipelines etc, we converted the same content into a generic guide for employees who work away in any industry. It's called Working Away: A Survival Guide for Families (second edition) and it's sold around the world.
Featuring professional advice and practical tips from Mining Family Matters co-founder Alicia Ranford and psychologist Angie Willcocks, the guides are recommended for use as an induction tool for new employees and also to reinforce support for existing workers. Fourteen chapters include:

- House rules for a happy home
- Boosting your workplace resilience
- Overcoming stress, anxiety and sadness
- Knowing your mental health first aid
- Helping children to cope when you work away

- 1-49 copies: $10 each (includes GST/postage)
- 50 copies: $400 total + GST/postage
- 100 copies: $700 + GST/postage
- 500 copies: $3000 + GST/postage
